Ios has been written off as a has-been party island roughly every five years since the 1980s, and every time it bounces back louder than before. The Chora hillside still looks like someone spilled a bag of sugar cubes down a cliff, the alleyways still smell like sunscreen and spilled Mythos, and the bars still don't hit their stride until well past midnight. If you are a backpacker who has been told to skip Ios in favour of somewhere more 'authentic', take that advice, ignore it completely, and book a bunk anyway.
